Gareth Southgate Picks Harry Kane As England Captain
England manager Gareth Southgate seems to have rewarded the EPL's top scorer Harry Kane for his performance in the just concluded season by handing him the captain band ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Scotland
"I wanted to give him a boost, He was pretty chuffed. It's a great honour." Gareth Southgate stated. The manager was also quick to point out that this was not a permanent role for the 23 year old. England's permanent captain Wayne Rooney has been frozen out of the squad by Southgate in recent months as he was not a regular at club level anymore.
Harry Kane who will be making his 18th appearance is the 119th player to captain the Three Lions of England. England sit pretty in group F with 13 points, four points ahead of their closest challengers Slovakia and six points ahead of hosts Scotland.
Liverpool midfielder had nothing but good words for his new captain. "I'm absolutely delighted for Harry, I've been so impressed by him, He's demonstrated why he is one of the World's best players."
The Three Lions are widely favourites to win the tie at Hampden Park, England and haven't lost a competitive game to Scotland in over 17 years.
