AS Roma Have Sacked Luciano Spalletti.. .For A Second Time
Roma have sacked their manager Luciano Spalletti despite finishing in second place and securing Champions League football. Diego Perotti's later minute winner against Genoa on the final day secured an automatic Champions League place for Roma ahead of Napoli, the Italian club made their decision right after the game.
Spalletti who was previously in charge of the capital club between 2005 and 2009 rejoined it in January 2016.
"We would like to thank Spalletti for his hardwork and his significant contribution since his return," Roma President Jim Pallotta said in a statement.
"Under his stewardship this season, the team has won more Serie A points and scored more goals than any side in Roma's history. We wish Luciano all the best in the future."
"this club is on a constant path of growth and that will continue with the appointment of a new coach who shares our values and philosophy and who will continue to take AS Roma forward"
Spalletti in his first spell as Roma Manager won the Coppa Italia twice and in the just concluded season the 58 year old managed to edge Napoli for an automatic UEFA Champions League Berth.
Luciano Spalletti's contract ran out at the end of the season but was under severe pressure for most of his second spell due to limited playing time of club legend Francesco Totti.
