Atletico Madrid are set to unveil their 67,000 capacity stadium Estadio Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Saturday with a 12-hour celebration which will be rounded off when the rojiblancos play their first game in their new stadium against Malaga.
Atleti have played at the Vincente Calderon stadium for over 50 years. A move to a newer and more modern stadium will represent better commercial opportunities for the club. The stadium is ready to host games but the final work on the new stadium will still take a couple of weeks to be completed.
The opening ceremony begins by 11:30 am on Saturday with a children's fan zone in the north-east side of the stadium, a music festival on the south-east side, and the walk of legends on the west featuring a presentation of the club's legendary players.
The official club store will also open for fans for the first time by 10am. Air force flying past before kick off will be part of the pre-match entertainment. The stadium has been in motion since 2011, it was hoped to be completed in 2015 but the date was put back to 2017 and required new investors in the shape of Wanda to complete the project that cost €240m.
