Jason Puncheon Says Crystal Palace Shouldn't Be Scared Of Manchester City

Despite five consecutive defeats in their opening five Premier League games Crystal Palace's captain Jason Puncheon insists the eagles will not be panicking despite a daunting of playing Manchester City on Saturday.

The woes of the London side may not get better in the coming weeks as they will face trips to Manchester United and champions Chelsea in less than a month. The Eagles are in fine form in the Carabao Cup and are into the last 16, but it is in the League that results are more in need. Goalless and Pointless, the Eagles are in dire need of a miracle as they travel to a ruthless Manchester City on Saturday.

"We've improved in the last two games and on another day those chances might have gone in", Puncheon said "but that's football and that's where we are as a team. As a group of players we must stick together and not let the negativity set in.

"Roy [Hodgson] has made an impact already. He wants us to be more compact and difficult to beat. We did that at times against Southampton but it's going to be a long process.

"The manager told us it's a 33-game season and nothing will be decided by Christmas-but we obviously need to start picking up results.

"Roy told us after the Southampton game to keep our heads and not let the pressure get to us. We've been here before as a group of players - we'll get ourselves out of this.

"The gaffer wants us to work on shape and it will take us time to get used to his methods. But we all have to pull in the right direction and this team will never lose due to lack of efforts, we'll go down fighting.

"In the Premier League it's all about getting three points. We go into every game knowing we're capable of producing a big performance. We'll go into those games as underdogs but the squad just needs to focus on our performance and block out any negative coverage."

Wilfred Zaha is unavailable for the Eagles as he recovers from a knee injury but it's not all doom and gloom as Mammadou Sakho had some minutes in the victory against Huddersfield on Tuesday.

Sakho's return for Palace is timely as they will face barrage of attacks from a City side with 11 goals in their last two games. Hodgson may find it Pertinent to 'Park The Bus' against Man City and a point will be precious and will surely be a morale booster for his group of players.
