UEFA has announced that there will be drink breaks if necessary in the Super Cup tie between Manchester United and Real Madrid as Heat wave hits Southern Europe.
Sport360 reports that the drink breaks will be employed if the Scorching Temperature in Skopje continues into the evening. Temperature have sky rocketed across Southern Europe due the heatwave dubbed 'Lucifer', regularly taking the Macedonian capital above 40 degrees Celsius.
The match official will decide 90minutes before the game kicks off whether to have drink breaks of three minutes, which will come approximately 30 minutes into each half. The breaks will be brought on if the temperatures exceed the 32 degrees using a digital thermometer reading, or 27 degrees using a wet bulb globe temperature device.
The temperature during the game is predicted to be 36 degrees Celsius. The UEFA delegate will also take into account other factors, such as temperature droppings as the evening continues - although it is unclear just how low it will go for the Super Cup.
UEFA also says irrespective of whether the breaks are used, 20 kilos of crushed ice should be provided for both teams and shading provided if the substitutes bench is directly under direct sunshine.
