German club Bayern Munich has officially named Jupp Heynckes as the club's new manager till the end of the season following Carlo Ancelotti's dismissal. Heynckes initially retired after leading the Bavarian club to a treble in 2013.
Bayern Munich suddenly fell out of love with Italian Ancelotti after a series of questionable results, the routing at the hands of PSG was the telling blow that led to his sack. Bayern had been in the market for a while after that and saw Willy Sagnol (Ancelotti's deputy) take charge of the draw at Hertha Berlin on Sunday.
Heynckes told Bayern's official website the it was only Bayern Munich in the whole world that would make him return to the dugout.
"My coaching staff and I will now do everything possible to bring successful football back, and I am looking forward to the task" The new manager said after the official announcement on Friday. The 72 year old takes charge of his first training session on October 9.
"Heynckes is a master in terms of leadership and tactics. We are convinced he is the right man to lead the team back to success and achieve our goals."
Heynckes' contract expires at the end of June and when he departs Hoffenheim's 30-year-old manager is expected to the frontrunner for the fulltime job.
