The Harry Show: Kane Fires England To Russia
England Striker Harry Kane converted from close range against Slovenia in Wembley to hand The Three Lions a World Cup ticket. The encounter which was largely sterile and uneventful came to life in the 94th minute when Kane pounced on Jordan Henderson's cross.
England are top of Group F with 23 points, Scotland is second with 17 points, Slovakia in third with 15 points. A win for Scotland over Slovenia meant that a draw would have been enough for England on the night, but Kane is a man who can't stop scoring and he turned up for the men in White just moments before the final whistle.
The goal was only Kane's second chance of the evening, his first was saved by Jan Oblak. England might be through now but Gareth Southgate cannot cover up the cracks and loopholes in his team, in a lifeless display they even needed moments of rescue from the much maligned Joe Hart.
Southgate has admitted to being aware of the home support's discontent and unhappy mood thus the lack of celebrations that accompany a World Cup qualification.
England Manager Southgate says his team aren't going to become Spain (whatever that means). "They are giving everything they've got. They don't have Champions League winning medals between them. We have got to give them the belief and backing to help them achieve.
"It's not a relief, I thought we'd achieve the objective [of qualifying]. Tonight highlighted where we are. We are not going to become Spain in the next eight months." Southgate said.
