Romelu Lukaku might have been linked with a move back to former club Chelsea for large periods of the transfer window but it was Manchester United who have announced that they've agreed a £75m deal with Everton for the Belgian striker few days ago.
Chelsea who have appeared to be lethargic in the current transfer window are said to be getting on Antonio Conte's nerves, the Italian had initially shown Costa the way but no replacement has been made and Romelu Lukaku seems likely to be heading to Manchester.
According to The Telegraph Lukaku's huge fee could have been avoided for Chelsea if they had not listened to Jose Mourinho when he was manager three years ago. The Portuguese never foresaw a situation where Lukaku will blossom and would be wanted back by Chelsea. Three years later Mourinho is Manchester United's manager is about to profit from his own miscalculation while at Chelsea, because a buy-back clause would certainly mean that The Blues could re-sign Lukaku for cheap.
Chelsea did not insert a buy-back clause in the £28m deal that took Lukaku to Everton
The Blues were trying to think long-term and asked Mourinho's opinion on Lukaku potentially becoming a target down the line. Mourinho was 'unequivocal' that Lukaku wouldn't reach such a level in the next few years. Despite the apparent lack of belief in Lukaku, Mourinho is said to have a good relationship with him.
