Bakayoko £40m Deal Is Complete
Chelsea have officially announced the signing of French midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from French Ligue 1 Champions Monaco for a fee believed to be very close to £40m, Bakayoko is now Chelsea's most expensive midfielder surpassing N'golo Kante's record of £32m.
Bakayoko will partner Kante in Chelsea's defensive midfield as the Blues intend to mount a Challenge on the European stage after missing out last term. Bakayoko helped Monaco win the French Ligue 1 last season and managed 51 appearances, 10 more than his two previous seasons combined.
Chelsea's Technical Director Michael Emenalo believes the 22 year old's 'European experience' will be a huge benefit to the Blues next season.
"Tiemoue was astounding as Monaco emerged as one of Europe's best sides last season and we are delighted to welcome him to Chelsea
Despite his young age he already has plenty of experience as a French title winner and having competed in the latter stages of the Champions League, we believe he would add considerable quality to our squad." Emenalo said.
