Mourinho Praises Arsenal Board After Wenger's New Contract
Jose Mourinho on Saturday praised the Arsenal board after they handed their French manager Arsene Wenger a new contract, the Manchester United manager praised the boards action of handing a two year deal to Mr.Wenger despite a poor 2016/17 campaign.
The Portuguese who is Wenger's old foe is of the opinion that the new deal is thoroughly deserved. Arsenal finished outside the top four for the first time since Arsene Wenger's take over as manager and the reward for that was missing out on Champions League football, well the Arsenal board apparently don't share the sentiment of the fans who have been calling for Wenger's head. Jose Mourinho on the other hand believes the new deal is a statement of intent.
"The way Wenger was treated, I think two more years is a fantastic treatment. That is what every manager wants, to be strong enough to make their own decisions to forget the media opinions, the pundits' opinions and the Supporters opinions." Mourinho said at a press conference in Los Angeles.
Mourinho feels that with Wenger Arsenal have a better chance at winning trophies. Mourinho's show of concern towards Wenger's career is some sort of a plot twist as the former Chelsea manager once labelled the Frenchman a 'specialist in failure' and three years ago both men almost came to blows (yes blows) in a game at Stamford Bridge during Mourinho's second spell in charge of Chelsea.
