Top 5 Heaviest Aggregate Defeats In The Champions League
German giants Bayern Munich thrashed Arsenal by the same embarrassing scoreline, in the wake of their thrashing at the Allianz Arena last month the Arsenal faithful must have been expecting a more positive outcome, but the gunners were greeted with a scoreline identical to the one in Germany three weeks ago. We take a look at the heaviest defeats on aggregate in the history of the Champions league.
Bayern Munich 7-0 Barcelona 2012/13 Semifinal
Bayern eased into the finals, first by beating Barcelona 4-0 in Germany, many expected the German team to sit back and defend their lead at the Camp Nou, they did not do just that but scored three goals beating Barcelona 3-0, 7-0 on aggregate.
Barcelona 10-2 Bayer Leverkusen 2011/12 Last 16
Bayer Leverkusen already lost 3-1 at home to Barca but their visit to the Camp Nou was a forgettable one as Messi's five goals helped the Catalans to a 7-1 victory.
Lyon 10-2 Werder Bremen 2004/05 Last 16
A meeting between the French Champions and German Champions at the time, 3-0 at Germany was a good result for the French team but maybe not good enough by their standards as they went on to wallop their German opponents by putting seven goals past them in France.
Bayern Munich 10-2 Arsenal 2016/17 Last 16
Arsenal lost 5-1 in Bavaria three weeks ago, when Bayern arrived at the Emirates stadium for the second leg, the result was identical as Bayern strolled into the last eight.
Bayern Munich 12-1 Sporting Lisbon 2008/09 Last 16
5-0 in Portugal and 7-1 in Germany, the results in the two legs were pretty straightforward, Bayern Munich didn't come to play and one of Portugal's most successful teams were humiliated in the heaviest ever defeat since the inception of the Champions league.
