Egypt Beat Ghana To Leapfrog The West Africans Who Were In Pole Position To Finish As Group Winners.

Mohammed Salah scored an 11th minute free kick and it was enough to give the Egyptians a 1-0 win.

Daniel Amartey missed Ghana's best chance when he headed wide from a free kick, a point would have been enough for Egypt against Ghana who were already through and after Salah's goal they were content to sit back and defend their lead.

Mali needed a convincing win to entertain any hope of going through but all hopes were wiped as Egypt beat group leaders Ghana. It was the Ugandan's that scored first through Farouk Miya in the 70th minute for their first goal in the competition since 1978, the Malians replied three minutes later when Yves Bissouma scored a free kick as the game ended 1-1 in a waterlogged pitch.

In the Quarter Finals Egypt will play Morocco while Ghana will play DR Congo.
