Southampton Beat Liverpool At Anfield To Reach Wembley
Shane Long's Late Minute Goal Gave Southampton A Second Victory In The two-legged EFL Cup Tie.
Claude Puel's Southampton had the chances to put the game to bed in the first half but Liverpool's keeper Loris Karius was at his best just like in the first leg to keep the Reds in the tie.
Liverpool were better in the second half with increased pressure and chances, Daniel Strurridge wasting two of them and Fraser Foster doing his best acrobatically to keep out Emre Can.
The hosts had a penalty shout late on when Divock Origi was brought down in the area by Jack Stephens but the referee was not interested.
It was the saints who found a way in the first minute of injury time when Shane Long fired the ball past Karius give Southampton a deserved victory and passage to the EFL Cup final in Wembley.
Southampton will now play either Manchester United or Hull City in the final. This is Southampton's first qualification for a final since 1979 and they did so without conceding in the EFL Cup.
